Neighborhood Watch in the Commonwealth

Sutton Park Neighborhood Crime Watch is open! Please contact Leigh Mattson - Sutton Park Neighborhood Crime Watch Coordinator at leigh@mattsonrealtor.com, 4610 Warwick Court Sugar Land, TX 77479 Phone: 281-265-6160.

Benefits of a Neighborhood Watch program are increased community spirit and increased security. All it takes for a successful program is an area coordinator and some block captains willing to spend a small amount of time. The Commonwealth Civic Association and the Sugar Land Police department will help you get started as well as some CASH.

For the Neighborhood Watch Program, the Commonwealth will be divided into the following areas:

Sweetwater Section 12
Commonwealth Park
Commonwealth Estates
Oxford
Sutton Park
Sutton Forest
Bridgewater 1,2 ,3, and 4

Each area will operate independently of the other areas. Each area will have an Area Coordinator. Responsibilities of the Area Coordinator are

  • Help organize their neighborhood by dividing the neighborhood into areas of 10 to 12 houses and recruiting a Block Captain in each area.
  • Work with the Sugar Land Police to set up safety and security training for the neighborhood.
  • Pass on to the Block Captains information about crime events in the neighborhood, alerts or crime prevention information. This will be done primarily by E-mail.
  • Set up a monthly meeting with the Block Captains to discuss crime events and crime prevention.
Every 10 to 12 homes will have a Block Captain. The responsibility of the Block Captain will be:
Collect information about the residents in your neighborhood such as home and work phone numbers and E-mail address. With permission, this information will be shared with other residents in your block.

Additional benefits of the program are free safety and crime prevention training by the Sugar Land Police Department. Also the Commonwealth Civic Association has agreed to give your area $10 per year for each home that is registered with the Neighborhood Watch Program in your area. Each area will determine how the money will be spent. If your area has 200 homes and 100 are registered with the Program, then your area will be entitled to spend $1000 per year on block parties or other activities.
